Viewpoint Photographic Art Center was formed in 1991 to give the photographic arts a home in the Sacramento Valley. Starting with a dedicated handful of photographers, Viewpoint has grown into a diverse membership of forward-looking supporters from all over Northern California and from other states as well. The Center operates as a not-for-profit educational organization. Membership support is used to underwrite educational and community outreach programs, which include: exhibiting a variety of photographic art that educates and enriches the community, hosting lectures, technical demonstrations, and workshops, using its newsletter and Internet communications to unite and inform those interested in photography, providing speakers to high schools and colleges.

This gallery is gaining a fine reputation nationally, among photographers. It's very well managed with an impressive amount of member participation and inspiring, professional exhibits, always. I would expect to find a gallery of this caliber in SF or NY. It's great to have it flourishing here locally!

There are very few galleries in Sacramento that specializes in photography. It is much appreciated that there is a gallery that shows photography as an art form.

In addition to first-rate exhibitions of fine art photography, Viewpoint also provides a slew (that's a technical term) of opportunities for photographers to improve their art. Workshops, field trips, and Wednesday-night feedback sessions are all designed to support photographic art in Northern California.

Viewpoint is about photography. It has been around more than ten years. It is a volunteer run organization. It displays significant work. It offers classes technical and aesthetic. It supports work in traditional new imagining media. It attracts work by and support from some of the most knowledgeable and influential artists / photographers in the country. And its in the safest location of any gallery in the area... right next door to a police station.
