We first got to Sierra Vista almost by accident. Being midwesterners, we were bedazzeled by the Napa Valley "mistique", BS, etc. One time, we got a late start towards the valley from our condo in Tahoe, and someone said "look at this, there are all these wineries around Placerville". We got off US- 50, and discovered one of the best kept secrets in California. Following the map provided by all the El Dorado wineries, we eventually found ourselves up at the end of Liesure Lane at Sierra Vista. We were greeted there by Enid who took us into their tasting room, which was in the warehouse with the barrels at that time, and treated us to a complete tasting and history of all their wines, as well as a splendid view of what graces their label. It was such a great difference from what we had experienced by our earlier visits to Napa, that we were hooked for life. We have been back every year since. Sometimes our schedule doesn't allow us time to visit all our favorite El Dorado/Amador County wineries, but Sierra Vista is never one that is marked off the list. All their wines are good, but their Fume Blanc is the best you will ever taste.\\jc
