The comments about the friendliness of the
staff and founding family are absolutely true.
Let me add that John McCready has been a true
pioneer for growing Rhone style wines in the
Sierra Foothills. He made opened the way to
many other wineries near by. I particularly enjoy
the whites: Roussanne and Viognier (some
of the finest French whites come from the
Rhone valley), and among the reds, the
Fleur de Montagne (a Chateauneuf du Pape
style blend), the Red Rock Ridge Syrah,
and the Mourvedre.

I will be harsh, but this winery is exactly
what you would expect from Silicon Valley nouveau riches who decide to start
a winery without significant wine background and appreciation. The wines are totally mediocre across the board.

An up and coming winery. The
Barbera that won a best red wine at the CA State Fair last year was outstanding,
They make also an excellent Estate
Syrah.

Their Sangioveses can blow your socks off.
I brought one bottle of Marmellata together
with an Italian Brunello 3 times more expensive
at a blind tasting party run by a French friend,
and everyone thought the Noceto was the Italian
Brunello! The best kept secret in Amador,
and I hope it stays that way!
