A few weeks ago my husband and I came into your location looking for a commuter scooter. The sales associate that helped us was Matt (I’m sorry – I don’t recall his last name).
One item we were concerned about while looking at the different options you had available was the distance that I commute to work (from Roseville to Natomas) and making sure what we purchased would go fast enough to drive safely on the back roads. Matt steered us away from the standard 50cc scooters – but recommended a United Motors X-Peed 50 because (in his words) the two-stroke engine would allow the scooter to go between 40mph & 45mph. He also said that it was the last one you had in stock. We were also told that there were modifications that could be done at your shop that would allow the scooter to get over 50mph. Based on this information from Matt, we went ahead and purchased the scooter that day.
We came back to the store about 1 ½ weeks later to pick up the scooter and take it home. On the way from the store to our house, I couldn’t get the scooter to go over 30mph! Needless to say, this definitely isn’t what we were expecting! I drove it around the neighborhood streets for a while & still couldn’t get the scooter to go over 30 mph.
This prompted us to start making some phone calls. A call placed to the UM dealer in San Francisco said he was impressed that we were able to get it up to 30 and said that was just about the max speed for this model scooter. I put a call into the UM customer service department in Florida and asked about potential modifications to make the scooter go faster. They said that any modifications made to the unit had the potential to void the warranty.
I began to do more research… To add insult to injury - the price listed for the very same scooter on the web-site was substantially higher than what we were charged! There were/are many other models on the market that we could have purchased at a significantly lower cost – with the motor/speed that we needed.
We realized at this point that what we had been told by Matt at Roseville Cycle was a flat-out lie. However – we also realized that a small portion of the fault was ours for trusting your salespersons statements at face value.
So – my husband and I made a trip back to Roseville Cycle with the intentions of turning the scooter we had just purchased in – fully willing to pay the difference in (albeit inflated) price for the next model up. I could not believe it when I was told that the only thing your team would be able to do was a much lower “trade-in” value for the scooter! However - he was willing more than willing to give us contact information where we could give Roseville Cycle's Performance Center even more money to attempt to make modifications to the cycle that would possibly make it go a bit faster.
What a joke!
Lesson Learned: Never Trust Anyone at Roseville Cycle!
