Over the past 28 years, St. John's Shelter has served more than 29,000 homeless women with children by providing life-changing services that put them on the path to becoming independent providers for their families. We are the largest shelter in Sacramento County and the only one focused exclusively on homeless women and children, but the shelter is just part of what we do. Our unique, three-phased continuum of care includes extensive employment training and supportive housing, combined with individualized case management, mental health and educational services, life-skills classes, child care and tutoring. Our 18-month program provides our families with up to 170 hours of education and services each month they are with us.
The St. John's Shelter has had marvelous results teaching women new marketable skills to allow them to find work and support their children.

ST. John's Shelter Program for Women and Children does not simply give a handout. Through lots of hard work they give women their lives back. An opportunity is given to become a productive member of society.
