Being an artist and craftsman it was easy to come up with the name of our winery, "of Art." It is our name, who we are, Dave and Helen Dart. I believe winemaking is an expression of art, just using a different medium.
We started making wine in our home 7 years ago. We made small one-barrel lots. We won numerous awards in home wine making competitions that allowed us to make a leap of faith and now we live on a beautiful 7-acre vineyard and winery.
I am still personally crafting the wine in small lots by hand. I have designed our labels using my own artwork. They depict the different places we have traveled to around the world. There is artwork both in and on the bottle.
Our wines capture the full depth of the vines. We leave the grapes hang on the vines until full maturity and even longer when they're used for our ports. Our wines exhibit a richness that is fruit forward with a kiss of oak.
My artwork is very bold, colorful and bright. Our wines reflect that also. I would be honored to be your artist, craftsman and winemaker.
D'art is Lodi's hidden gem. We have tasted all over CA and are lucky to have such a unique, family owned winery so close. You MUST try their cabernet and tempranillo. (Ok, all their wines are great!) Wine club members are treated to such fun events as port blending and "pick-up" bbq's. Dave & Helen are fun, friendly people who are always happy to share what's going on behind the scenes with the wine making process.
