The Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento, founded in 1989, is a member-supported, nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and appreciation of new and experimental art by international, national and regional artists. Artists who have exhibited at CCAS include Christopher Brown, Hans Hoffman, Diane de Kooning, Steve Kaltenbach, William Wiley, Troy Dalton, Jack Ogden, James Albertson, Brenda Louie, Joan Moment, Tony Natsoulas, Craig N. Smith, Gerald Walburg, and John Yoyogi Fortes. CCAS functions as more than a contemporary art center, hosting special events, such as the Annual Benefit Art Auction, CAST (Capitol Artists Studio Tour), monthly lectures and workshops for art students. In addition to the longtime support of the public, artistic community and corporate sponsors, CCAS has a strong and dedicated board of directors.

CCAS presents exhibitions that would not typically be seen in other local museums. There are monthly lectures which are free to students and CCAS members. Parking is rarely an issue. The Center is an asset to the greater Sacramento area.

They exhibit serious art without any concern whether it will sell or not. This weeds out a lot of crap.

The museum shows a high caliber and current contemporary art work that doesn't often get a venue in Sacramento.

The Center for Contemporary Art has consistently shown well thought-out and never boring artwork. I have never had a problem finding parking space to attend events at the center.

The Center brings shows to Sacramento that are more like you would see in S.F. or L.A. Have seen a couple shows- one an installation a few months ago and the photography show they now have up and both were great. Staff is helpful and willing to spend time talking about the art.

CCAS not only exhibits great contemporary art, but they have excellent lectures! Most recently by award winning photographer Reagan Louie. Look for upcoming lectures and gallery talks by Gerald Walburg, Roy De Forest, and Jack Ogden.

The center brings works from important, world renowned contemporary artists, as well as lesser known regional artists- I think this is great for the community.

Small place, but good shows. Shows don't last long, so if there is something you don't like something new will soon be up in a month or two. The place has a positive vibe and is the only museum that shows only contemporary art in the area. Parking at times can be hard. No admission which is rare these days. Staff is always pleasant and helpful.
