The region’s largest nonprofit performing arts group has been committed to serving the community since 1951.
QUALITY PRODUCTIONS TO ENRICH THE CULTURAL LIFE OF OUR COMMUNITY
MUSIC CIRCUS, a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience, is unique not just because of its in-the-round staging, but also because of our commitment to storytelling, performance excellence and presentation of a diverse selection of shows. For 56 years, Music Circus has been the summertime home to both up-and-comers and established Broadway veterans. Over 500 productions of 150 different musicals from “Show Boat” to this summer’s “Les Misérables” have been presented on the round stage, including 11 Music Circus premieres since the opening of the Wells Fargo Pavilion in 2003.
THE BROADWAY SERIES, the Capital City’s showcase of the best Broadway tours, has grown into the region’s largest live performing arts event, welcoming 200,000 ticket buyers every year. From blockbusters like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “The Lion King” to the hottest new Broadway shows like “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and “The Light in the Piazza,” The Broadway Series has added new excitement to Downtown Sacramento. With over 100 performances in the Community Center Theater every year, The Broadway Series has sparked the rebirth of the city’s nightlife.
EDUCATE NEW AUDIENCES AND NURTURE ASPIRING ARTISTS
To preserve and advance the American musical theatre as an art form, California Musical Theatre is committed to making performing arts a part of the lives of young people. Our multi-level education programs impact the lives of students through curriculum development, teacher training and providing teaching artists in schools. California Musical Theatre has been recognized eight times by the League of American Theatres and Producers for its programs integrating classroom curricula with touring Broadway productions. CMT lives out its commitment to enriching the culture of our community by bringing vitality and culture into the lives of our children.
Since its inception, California Musical Theatre has been essential to the development of generations of performers, artisans and technicians. Music Circus’ prestigious internship and assistantship programs attract aspiring theatre professionals, many of whom have become influential members of the national arts community. We have been proud to introduced exciting, fresh-faced performers to Sacramento audiences before they hit it big in New York and to welcome them back year after year.
California Musical Theatre-Music Circus enlightens theater lovers in the Sacramento area. Music Circus is very unique using a "theater-in-the-round" stage, equipped with high tech sound and lighting. I have personally taken the Camp Music Circus, and I had the best summer ever performing the musical, "Dear Edwina, Jr.". Music Circus brings such quality professional productions (My favorite production: Footloose!!) with artists in residence. The Broadway Series is much different than Music Circus, taking Broadway shows that are on current National Tour. What's great about this series is that you experience Broadway quality shows right in the area you live in. With out these series, I would have never seen Flower Drum Song, Sweet Charity, All Shook Up (it goes even longer). As a theater geek myself, California Musical Theatre enriches the art of musical theater linking the importance of education, quality, and talent all in one. If you have a chance., please see one of their shows, they are outstanding!!!
The Music Circus has been a family tradition for many years because of our love of music and musical theater. We love the theater in the round because we're actually part of the performances; so close we can see the faces of the talented performers.
You can enjoy Broadway experienced actors, directors and choreographers right in our own backyard and in the comfort of a beautiful theatre in the round.
I've never seen a bad show there. The performance are always top notch professional shows. Theatre in the round is always more intimate...no such thing as a bad seat!
