I feel the portions are small and way too expensive for what you get. It's a name dropping kind of place. There's places in San Francisco much better at better prices.
Why I voted for Biba's??? If you know food then there is no question as to why I voted for Biba's. If you do not know what bechamel sauce is then you have no business voting for any kind of food.
My husband and I love Biba's and go there for special occasions. People may say it is overpriced, but you pay for the ambiance and service and I think it is worth it. Sacramento needs more elegant places like this.
Biba's restaurant is always exceptional. I have had the good fortune to travel around the world, several times, and the quality and elegance of this restaurant is only found or matched in a few places;New York,Paris, San Fran, Buenos Aires.
What I appreciate so much about this restaurant is the quality of the ingredients used in preparing each dish. Biba has a passion for food, and I it is lovely to have this wonderful restaurant in Sacramento. Also, the staff are very well trained. They remember names, and many have worked here for a very long time. Biba is numero uno!
I spent two years working in Italy and Biba's is way more expensive than any place over there. Only the highest end Roman restaurants would come close to these prices. Lasagne alla Bolognese, for example, would never be over $8. She charges over $17 and that's a first course meal. It tastes good, but not that good. $27 for ossobucco? That's too much.
Some of the items on the menu are more like French or fussion cuisine (mango, Yukon gold potatoes), not the simple food offered in the majority of the restaurants.
My mother was going to the Sutter hospital for therapy after her stroke and in a wheel chair and all we would go and they were so kind and the food made her so happy, it was our little treat to ourselves. Since we had to drive an hour to get there it was our favorite dining adventure.
This vote doesn't need an explanation if you've been paying attention the last 15 years. Her staff, presentation, audacity, ambiance and adherence to principals makes her unique in our town and perhaps in Northern California. For a memorable dinner nowhere else in town continues to create such memories.
