Carpe Vino was launched nearly five years ago as a wine shop and wine bar; fine dining was added to the mix in April 2006 when Chefs Courtney McDonald and Eric Alexander, graduates of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, opened the kitchen.
After just five months, the Sacramento Bee reviewed the restaurant and awarded 3 1/2 stars (out of four possible). Last December, the Bee's restaurant critic, Mike Dunne, named Carpe Vino to his top 12 list.
Sacramento Magazine named Carpe Vino as one fo the Top 10 most romantic restaurants in February 2006, and most recently as one of the top new restaurants in the region. Sunset magazine named Carpe Vino to its list of favorite wine bars in Northern California.
The blend of exquisite New California cuisine, access to more than 500 wines priced at retail (plus $5 in the restaruant) and unparalleled service delivered in a wonderful structure built in 1855, combine to create a singlular experience for people who love food and wine. Located on the plaza in Old Town Auburn, this ain't no strip mall restaurant.
The compact menu that features Placer Grown produce and the best meats and fish from leading purveyors are the basis for creative offerings that change every four to six weeks.
The main restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday evenings, and the unique "Wine Mine" is available for private parties and is the site for Carpe Vino's popular winemaker dinner series.
Seating in the dining room is limited to 32 people, so the experience is highly personal and service normally takes about two hours. Be prepared to enjoy yourself!
